“I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is a disgrace, two are a law firm, and three or more are a Congress.” – John Adams. 1776 follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence. The Tony Award winner for Best Musical, 1776 is a funny, insightful and compelling drama with a striking score including the romantic “He Plays the Violin”, the comedic “The Lees of Old Virginia”, and the plaintive memorial to young patriots “Momma Look Sharp”.
